VISION PLAN 2005-2010

Goals

1. Increased Membership
i. To encourage new members and to retain existing members.
ii. To encourage young members
iii. Increase and retain membership of owners of geldings
Strategies to achieve Goals
i. Decrease Welsh content in Part Welsh to 12.5%
ii. Encourage young people to take an Associate membership
iii. RPGs to promote & request more classes at Agricultural Shows
To offer saddle championships, high points awards etc at shows
To standardise a gelding program to send to RPGs for agricultural and Welsh shows
Intoduce incentives and Special Awards for geldings
v. Promotion of Working Hunter, Show Hunter, Pony Dressage and all disciplines of Driving

i. Monitor % membership increase in Part Welsh breeders/owners
ii. Measure increase in associate membership of persons under 18 years of age
iii. Monitor membership for increase % in renewals of membership

i. To make clear to members how funds are used via AGM, information days, Action and memos to RPGs
To use bank interest directly for members benefit through promotion and special awards.
ii. Increase in membership to offset increase in operating costs particularly the large increase in insurance costs.
Performance Indicator as measured by:
i. Measure increase in membership and attendance at COM information meetings.
ii. Evaluate number of members in relation to insurance costs.

Promotion
i. To provide quality promotional programs
ii. To promote the breed in a increased range of publications
iii. To promote the breed in a wider variety of activities
iv. To provide a wider range of promotional goods for sale
v. To promote the breed by expanding the range of activities eligible for special awards.
Strategies to achieve Goals

To present professional advertising campaigns
ii. Advertising in a wider range of suitable magazines and rural newspapers
Advise members of forthcoming feature advertising, to allow members to advertise also
iii. Target areas for promotion are Pure/ Part Welsh, Working Hunter, Pony dressage, Schools Competition, Harness and ponies exported.
Form a sub committee to develop a national policy for these target areas.
COM selected teams to present these programs to regional meetings of members
iv. Source new promotional items from different suppliers, items suitable for children. New items to be promoted in Society newsletter Action and sold at Society events.
v. To extend the Special Awards program to include target areas.
Prepare a COM Presentation to RPGs to make more aware of the structure and reasons for the Special Awards.
To promote the Special Awards to RPGs encouraging nomination of more veried classes.
Performance Indicator as measured by:
i.& ii. Monitor circulation of magazines to assess value of advertising
iii. Record numbers attending COM information meetings
iv. Measure % increase in sales of promotional goods
v. Measure uptake of Special Awards and response from RPG’s identifying opportunities for target areas.

Society Image
i. Improvement to Website
ii. Improve communication with RPGs and members
iii. Behaviour of members towards staff, members and non members
iv. Review Risk Management plan
v. Consider moving AGM from state to state
Strategies to achieve Goals
i. Employ new website designer to develop a website with the ability to be updated by COM
ii. COM Presentatations to be given in all states. Available to all members, information on the Society, its future, expectations of RPGs and member input.
iii. Review dicipline of members’ procedures
iv. Update safety guidelines in show regulations on a regular basis. To include stallions not to be shown in mixed classes, age of rider/ driver.
v. Form sub committee to assess feasibility of moving AGM from state to state.
Performance Indicator as measured by:
i. Note numbers of visits to the Website.
Staff to monitor material used from the website.
ii. Assess attendance by members at presentations against improvements to communications from RPG committees.
iii. Acceptance by the members of a proposed revised, viable disciplinary plan at an AGM
iv. Monitor record keeping of event incidents as recorded by committees at Society events
v. Cost benefit analysis of moving AGM from state to state.

Youth Program
i. To encourage more participation by young people

i. To provide information videos, DVD’s on the different sections of the Stud Book, showing and activities available
To combine the Performance and Pony Club Competitions.
ii. To provide information packs to people under 18 years of age
iii. Provide activities and promotions towards youth in publications and magazines eg Horsewyse
iv. RPGs and sub committees to encourage a wide variety of activities at Welsh and Agricultural Shows for geldings.
Performance Indicator as measured by:
i. Record numbers of information videos sent out to members.
Monitor % increase in participating members
ii. Record numbers of packs sent out to young people
iii. Monitor circulation of magazines containing Society youth promotions
Measure % increase in numbers of exhibitors in activity classes

Stud Book
i. To continue to maintain an accurate Stud Book
ii. To produce the Stud Book on a regular basis
iii. To delelop the DNA data base

Strategies to achieve Goals
i. Careful monitoring of registration applications by Editing Committee
ii. Stud Book to be produced every 2-3 years.
iii. Review system of random DNA typing
Research possibility of DNA typing all stallions not typed.
Performance Indicator as measured by:
i.&ii. Stud Book is produced every 2-3 years.
iii. Record % increase in random sampling numbers on database.
Evaluate numbers of entires recorded on DNA database
Record number of times DNA database is used by the Society for benefit of members for verification of breeding and research.

The members of the Welsh Pony and Cob Society of Australia Inc. are entitled to expect that the affairs of the Society will be conducted in a business like manner.
In developing this Business Plan, the Committee of Management has aimed to produce a practical, clear and unambiguous statement with a vision, objectives and an action plan to deliver it. It defines measurable targets, priorities and costs.
A goal for membership of 3000 has been set for 2010. Members will be kept informed on how the funds, which will be used for the benefit of members, are to be spent.
This plan is a commitment to responsible long term planning being mindful of the future needs of the Society and its members while maintaining the costs to members at competitive rates
